Which technologies do your products use to communicate with each other and how does it work?

The vast majority of D-Link products use Wi-Fi technology to communicate with each other. This provides users with the ability to easily connect these devices to their existing home Wi-Fi network without the cost of an additional hub.  However, D-Link has announced a Connected Home hub that will provide both Wi-Fi and Z-Wave radio technologies for additional device connectivity.  The use of Z-Wave is to provide wireless connectivity to low-powered devices such as Window/Door sensors and a motion sensor that are battery-powered for flexible placement where electrical outlets are not located.

Do your products communicate with products from other manufacturers using a standard protocol? (which one)

A majority of our Connected Home products are Wi-Fi based so they work with any Wi-Fi home network.  D-Link is also a member of the AllSeen Alliance that will deliver a standard protocol framework for interoperability between manufacturers.  D-Link has also worked with other partners, such as Zonoff and Staples to deliver interoperability of our cameras and other devices in the Zonoff/Staples Connect ecosystem.  In addition, we are working with iControl to integrate iControl support on select D-Link cameras for their OpenHome support that many service providers are using for device interoperability and control.

In a short paragraph or two please describe how your products fit into a Smart Home scenario and how they are set up to work together to perform automated tasks.

D-Link’s Connected Home solution is managed by the free mydlink Home app providing a single user interface to manage devices and create various actions based on triggers.  The mydlink Home app provides users to view live camera feeds, set schedules to turn devices on and off using the smart plugs and receive alerts when motion or a water leak is detected.  D-Link Connected Home products “Get Your Home Talking” with numerous device combinations to secure, connect, and automate your home.  Here are just a few of our favorites —  Use the Smart Plugs to set schedules to illuminate your home while you’re away;  Automatically turn lights on when motion is detected and record video footage to a local network video recorder.

Users want a connected home solution that is easy to setup, easy to use, addresses a current need and give them peace of mind monitoring their home while away.  D-Link’s Connected Home solution is focused on delivering the value of DIY setup with no recurring monthly fees for use.  We believe that when your devices communicate, your home becomes safer, more convenient, and more in turn with you.  D-Link’s solutions delivers an app that gets your home talking for a smarter connected home experience.
