I want to say from the outset that I’m no HA “Guru”. In fact the very opposite is true.
I’ve been interested in the concept of home automation ever since I first found the news group (comp.home.automation) the week I went on line in February 1995. Here in the UK however it seems Home Automation is practically unheard of. I felt there was a need for a focal point for all those interested in the subject in the UK and it was for this reason I created this web site.
ChannelPlus
I did find a couple of UK suppliers who used to sell X10 units but they had both stopped due to difficulty in obtaining units that were certified for use in Europe. Eventually I found out (again through the news group) about a UK dealer who sold the units.
As I am currently planning to start building my new home in the Spring of 1997 I am interested in finding out as much as I can before the building commences. It will probably be a once-in-a-life-time chance to plan and install a comprehensive HA system. I envisage putting a lot of cable in these walls!
So I suppose I’m using my present house as a sort of HA test bed to give me a better idea of what I want in the new house. So far I’ve only fitted a couple of X10 lamp modules, in-wall modules and a One For All infrared controller. What I really want to get into is two-way X10 using something like the JDS Time Commander or one of its big brothers like the TC+ or Stargate.
So as you see I will be learning as we go along as much as the visitors to the site.
In conclusion I would like to extend a welcome everyone to the site at: http://www.btinternet.com/~uk.homeautomation/ Come along, visit and send me some suggestions.
Regards from Northern Ireland,
