Need to control your entertainment system from another room? This solution from Terk may be just what you are looking for.

The Remote Anywhere consists of 2 components. The transmitter is a small device that is connected via velcro to the end of your remote control (positioned so that it’s IR window covers the IR sender on the remote. Just install the battery (included) and mount the unit.

The receiver plugs into a wall outlet and must be aimed at your components. When you push a button on the remote, the IR signal is converted to a radio signal and sent to the receiver. The signal is converted back to IR and sent to the component just as though you had aimed your remote. Theoretical operating range is 150 feet although as with most radio transmissions in the home this range is affected by the surroundings and seldom reaches the maximum distance.

Setup couldn’t be simpler. Out of the box it took only a few minutes to get the LeapFrog working. One problem I did encounter was battery installation. Prying the plastic transmitter apart proved to be a bit of a task and in fact I ended up breaking one of the catches in the process. I’m told that this problem is being resolved by Terk.

Remote Anywhere allows consumers to control their satellite receiver, A/V components, TiVo™, DVD player, tuner, etc., from other rooms up to 150 feet (46 meters) away. This capability is especially useful to owners of satellite systems looking to view programs from a single receiver or recorder on different televisions throughout the home, without purchasing another unit or incurring additional monthly programming charges. Remote Anywhere puts the full functionality of any satellite system right at the user’s fingertips.

I like simple solutions … and this one is! For the MSRP of $49.95 it may be just what you need to control that satellite system from your tree house 🙂
