How has the digital signage industry changed in just the last few years, and what changes do you see coming in the near future?
With the large acceptance/usage of Smart Phone and tablet technology, consumers expect digital screens to do what they want them to. The industry has reacted to this with more interactive displays. The demand for higher resolution (since the screens are closer to the consumer) has also raised the bar. Ultra HD has hit the market and will continue to grow – as will richer more brilliant content. The future will bring more integration between personal devices and digital screens. Screens will become more connected to devices with the continued evolvement of – “the internet of things”.
What role does Digital Signage Expo play in this industry?
DSE serves the one place individuals can go to experience the latest technology and trends while learning from the industry’s sharpest and most forward thinking minds. As the largest digital signage and interactive technology event on the globe it is the annual meeting place for the industry.
How many exhibitors and visitors are you expecting this year and what sectors of the industry do they represent?
We are expecting close to 200 exhibitors at this year’s event. We never report on attendee numbers until the show is over but it is shaping up to be another exciting year for DSE. We primarily focus on delivering quality attendees in the following areas:
- end users (retailer s, restaurants, transportation, healthcare facilities etc),
- audio visual integrators
- DOOH network Operators
- Marketing / advertising and brand professionals
How does DSE contribute to the industry's growth?
Each year DSE invests substantial dollars to attract new attendees to the show and thus our industry. This includes large media buys both in print and online advertising as well as heavy promotion with over 50 media partners. Each year these efforts pay off welcoming new companies to the event to discover how digital signage can help their business.
What will be new and different at DSE 2014?
For the first time DSE is offering the Digital Signage Certified Expert program in Spanish. We are also welcoming back our industry vertical roundtables which allow for intimate learning amongst peer groups in separate industries. We are offering 60 of these this year and 30 are already sold out!
If there is one thing that attendees should be sure to see at DSE 2014 – what is it?
I can’t name just one thing…. This year’s exhibit floor will have 40 new companies and 38 companies from outside the USA showcasing solutions (some of them for the first time). I encourage all the attendees to plan to see each and every booth at the show – many times it is the smaller exhibits that have the can’t miss technology.
For new companies venturing into Digital Signage can you offer some advice about the most effective way to take advantage of DSE and what it has to offer?
I advise attendees to make sure they take advantage of the fantastic education offered at DSE. This is the best way to learn from others who have been in this space and have made the mistakes. Investing the proper time to learn about this exciting industry upfront will save BIG. Also, attend the networking functions to form relationships with others – it really is a fun industry with great people! Also, try and set up appointments with exhibitors prior to your arrival – this will make the best of the time at the show!
