| Cloud Based Energy Management | Ted Fagenson | EcoFactor | Feb 2013 |
EcoFactor builds cloud-based analytics software that powers multiple residential energy saving services. We process massive amounts of data, including physical household characteristics and consumer behavioral interactions. |
| Merging Thermal Storage with Load Shifting for Efficient Cooling | Adam VanOort, President, DataNab | http://www.datanab.com/ | Feb 2012 |
Reprinted with permission from AutomatedBuildings.com The theory behind load shifting is to use more power when it’s cheap and less power when it’s expensive. The overall system costs are quite low. The insulated holding tank is just a re-used water heater tank, and the thermal battery tank is a store-bought cooler priced at $80. The off-the-shelf copper coils were priced at $20 apiece, and the small circulating pumps each cost around $50. The total cost of the sensors, the Barionet, and the MBus_Io10_LCD is under $350. The WattNode demand meter and the water meter are optional components and economically priced. |
| Foundation™ Platform for Residential Demand Response and Home Energy Management | Interview with | Energate | Feb 2012 |
Foundation combines not only multiple features, but also, in effect, multiple devices. It is both a smart thermostat and an in-home display integrated into a single device. It is also extensible with the ability to control other loads, receive over-the-air (OTA) upgrades and add support for another network, such as Wi-Fi, with a USNAP (Universal Smart Network Access Port) module. |
| Residential Power Monitoring | Mark Anderson | Dec 2011 |
Living with soaring fuel prices, a difficult economy, and the emerging Smart Grid, I decided I would start to monitor and manage my power consumption when I rehabbed my 1912 house. The monitoring has been running for several months now, so did it make me a more eco-friendly citizen and did it save me money?
| On Energy Management, Manufacturing and Factory Automation | Bob Hetherington | HomeToys | Oct 2011 |
It's not enough to monitor our energy use. We don't really care about that unless it does something to change our lives or save us money. So, let's put a solar system on the roof. Now that can do both of these things and should attract our attention. But let's take it a step further. With that solar system there is a new variable in the mix --- FREE CLEAN ENERGY. What can and should we do with it. |
| The Lutron Energi TriPak | Christopher Buck | Lutron Electronics | Aug 2011 |
The Energi TriPak solution is ideal for small commercial spaces such as conference rooms, private offices, training rooms, open office space, and any other area that benefits from reduced energy consumption. In many of these spaces, lighting is on at full brightness even when the space is unoccupied or when there is abundant daylight. Energi TriPak products can reduce the electricity consumption during these times, and can also help occupants to be more productive by allowing them to set their own optimal lighting. | Consumer Attitudes and the Benefits of Smart Grid Technologies | Bill Ablondi | Parks Associates | Oct 2010 |
Consumer attitudes about the benefits of smart grid technology are still in a formative stage. Most consumers are not aware of the term, much less the capabilities smart grid technologies will be bringing in the next few years. |
| Home Control and Energy Conservation | Didier Boivin | Watteco | Aug 2009 |
Watteco’s Watt Pulse Communications (WPC™) power line communication (PLC) module is the only low power solution for the home energy command and control market to support the development of a two-way, end-to-end communications fabric for the world’s electricity system based on Internet Protocol (IP) standards |
| Getting Serious About Energy Management | Grayson Evans | Training Reels | Sep 2008 |
This TIP is a little different. it’s not a how-to tip, it’s a “get you thinking” tip. It’s about a technology opportunity that has been a personal interest of mine for a long time: solar energy generation at the home. This stuff has become very interesting lately and worth your time to take a look. |
| Want to Go Green? Automate your Home! | SmartHomeUSA | SmartHomeUSA | Dec 2007 |
Greening your home can add up to significant savings, both for you and the Earth, and adding home automation to the mix only makes your life easier! |
| The Energy Crisis Rolls On | X10-Zone | Feb 2001 |
If we all do even a little bit, it will make a great difference in the availability of our resources. With all these products here at X10, keeping those electric bills down should be the easiest thing you do this winter.
| RG's Save Energy | David Gaw | Coactive Networks | Dec 2000 |
The residential gateway offers a window of intelligence about your home. With tangible and specific feedback on your own energy use, you’re more equipped to make changes that have a bottom line result. For example, if you know exactly how much it costs to run a hot tub in the winter or to keep the air conditioning on full blast when the family is at work, you are likely to make some smart, cost-cutting choices. |
| Energy Gateways | David Gaw | Coactive Networks | Oct 2000 |
Because it has access to all devices and appliances in your home, a smart gateway can apply pre-programmed guidelines to prioritize, cycle, and alter set-points to bring energy output down to pre-established levels. It can also send you warnings or alerts, giving you the option to override the system and make your own choices about what to do. |
